BROWN COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged school threat at a Kansas middle school.

Brown County Sheriff John Merchant reported he received calls expressing concern about the alleged threat involving  a student at the Everest Middle School, 221 South 7th, Everest, Kansas, that occurred Wednesday.

When the potential threat was discovered, school personnel
immediately  acted and involved law enforcement who were on scene very quickly.  An investigation was launched, and the juvenile involved was taken into custody swiftly and without incident.

The Brown County investigators forwarded a report to the Brown County Attorney, who was actively involved with the sheriff's office in this matter and was consulted during the investigation and detention of the suspect, according to Merchant.

Formal charges have been filed in Brown County Juvenile Court against the suspect involved.

"Rumors about the incident have reportedly spread through the community," according to Merchant.  They are simply not true.

The sheriff also commended USD 430 on their commitment to keeping students and staff safe.
