16-year-old fired gun during Kansas carjacking

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a week incident involving a gun.

Just after 1p.m. Sunday, police responded to the area of SE 19th Street and SE Michigan Avenue in Topeka on a report of an aggravated robbery, according to Police Sergeant Justin Joyce.

It was reported a man with a firearm threatened an individual, shot one round from the firearm into the air, and stole the victim’s vehicle.

At 1:20 p.m., Topeka Police Officers responding to the incident observed the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver exited the vehicle and fled from officers on foot in the area of the 1900 block of SE Colorado Avenue.

 Officers took the suspect later identified as a 16-year-old into custody in the area and transported him to the Shawnee County Juvenile Detention Center on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm and Criminal Carry of a Weapon

There were no injuries associated with this incident.
