NEW ORLEANS, La. - Posting the top time in the NJCAA in two events this past weekend at the Washburn University All-Kansas Invitational, Cloud County Community College women's track and field athlete Mercy Ntia-Obong has been named United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Women's Athlete of the Week.

Competing in both the 60 meters and 200 meters, Ntia-Obong hit NJCAA-leading marks in both events by running times of 7.49 in the 60 meters and 24.14 in the 200 meters. The 60-meters time would give the native of Nigeria a 0.23-second victory in the 25-runner field while beating out other NJCAA and NCAA Division II athletes.

This marks the first time that Ntia-Obong has been named USTFCCCA NJCAA Women's Athlete of the Week and the second consecutive week that a Cloud County track and field athlete has earned national honors after Courtney Lawrence was named Men's Athlete of the Week last week.
