A large exterior fire outside Doonan Specialized Trailer, just east of the U.S. 56/K-156 intersection east of Great Bend, was quickly controlled by Barton County fire personnel.
Great Bend Fire was dispatched to the area at approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday evening. With several explosions reported, and with various nearby structures and hazardous materials present, GBFD requested mutual aid from Ellinwood, Claflin, and Albert fire departments. Rice County also offered mutual aid.

The fire did not reach the interior of any building structures. White smoke drifted across U.S. 56 Highway as fire personnel gained control of the fire, but the highway was never shut down. Crews also had to contend with burning tires and a grass fire. As of 6:30 p.m., several fire trucks remained on scene.
This is a developing story. Check the Post for more details as they become available.
