Fire does extensive damage to Kansas home

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Officials are working to determine the cause of a Kansas house fire.

The Topeka Fire Department responded to a house fire located at 6219 Southwest Murrow Court, just

Just before 5:00 a.m.. on Wednesday, fire crews responded to a house fire at 6219 Southwest Murrow Court in Topeka, according to spokesman Alan Stahl.

When crews arrived the single-story home was fully evolved in flames. Due to the extensive amount of fire, firefighters began an exterior defensive fire attack. The house next door sustained minor heat damage to its siding.

 Neighbors reported an individual had been staying at the house. Officials found this person and confirmed they were safe.

The estimated dollar loss is $24,910 all of which is associated with structural loss. No working smoke detectors were located within the home, according to Stahl.
