HESSTON, Kan. — Fire crews responded Friday afternoon to a commercial fire alarm in the 300 block of South College Drive and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a classroom building at Hesston College, according to a social media report from Hesston Fire and EMS.
Just before 4p.m., crews were dispatched and arrived on scene to find smoke and fire showing from the roof and windows on the northwest corner of the structure. Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack and located the fire in a chemistry lab. The blaze was quickly brought under control, and fire damage was contained to the lab.
Although the fire was limited to one room, officials reported widespread smoke damage throughout the building. No injuries were reported among civilians or emergency personnel.
Crews remained on site for an extensive overhaul and assisted the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office in the investigation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
