Kansas City shuts down Westport business after mass shooting

KANSAS CITY—The Kansas City Public Safety Task Force closed the Westport Media Collective, 315 Westport Road Suite 200, Kansas City, following a mass shooting and multiple complaints.

The business was operating without a valid license or a current fire marshal inspection, according to a media release from the Task Force.

"Kansas City government will take all steps available to ensure resident safety, including business closures for those endangering their customers and not complying with our laws," Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas wrote on his social media account.

On October 9, a shooting in the 300 block of Westport Road, injured four adults and a teenager.  Police have not reported how or if the business was involved with the shooting. Police also have not reported an arrest or announced suspect details. The victims are expected to recover, according to KCPD.
