Arraignment hearing for man accused of threatening Wichita mayor

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A suspect accused of making a threat to kill the Mayor of Wichita is due back in court Thursday. 

Griffin K. Cornejo, 50, Wichita, is scheduled to attend an arraignment hearing in the courtroom of Judge Kevin Smith, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.   In March he was charged with criminal threat, according to the District Attorney's office.  The judge could ask Corjejo to enter a plea in the case.

On March 23, police confirmed the alleged threat. "We are aware of the threats made against Mayor Lily Wu. Our investigators have been in contact with the Mayor and police are working closely with the mayor and her staff.”

According to court documents Cornejo threatened to kill the mayor over a delay in his SNAP benefits.

 Cornejo was arrested at 1021 West 31st S in Wichita and booked into jail just before 8pm. March 23. He remains jailed on a $50,000.00 bond, according to online jail records.
