Thanks to the efforts of KINA morning personality Jay Michaels and a generous matching donation from the Bob and Pat Schmidt Foundation, Eagle Radio recently raised $5,200 for Ashby House.

Andy Houltberg, executive director of Ashby House, stopped by the KINA studio earlier today for the check presentation.

The Ashby House operates a homeless shelter for families and individual women, serving approximately 350 people per year.

The money raised by Eagle Radio will be used to help Ashby House finish the remodeling of the house at the corner of South Eighth Street and West Walnut Street. The house is being remodeled to be used for women and children in the Salina area.

According to information from Ashby House, the Finish That House project will provide the following four major benefits.

● Increase capacity with seven additional bedrooms and five additional bathrooms.

● Provide accessibility to those with physical limitations with a first-floor bedroom and ADA compliant bathroom and ramp.

● Make the shelter safer for staff and clients by updating the security system and adding coded entries.

● Provide a functional kitchen and dining room for community meals.

About the Bob and Pat Schmidt Foundation

Longtime Kansas radio man Bob Schmidt was determined to continue to be a major contributor to projects important to Kansas through the Bob and Pat Schmidt Foundation in Hays. Schmidt retired as president/CEO of Eagle Communications in 1998 and sold the majority interest in the company to its employees through an employee stock ownership plan. KINA, KGPrime, 99KG, and Salina Post are a part of that employee-owned company.
