KCPD officers shoot, kill man who drove off in a patrol car

WYANDOTTE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting at 95 and Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas

Just after 8a.m., police responded to a call of an individual who had car trouble at the 92nd and Parallel, according to police.

As the officer approached the disabled vehicle, it appeared abandoned. A man then approached the officer on foot and pointed a gun at the officer. The officer took cover. The individual then entered the police vehicle and drove away.

The officer notified other police units in the area who caught up to and conducted a traffic stop on the police vehicle. The driver got out of the police vehicle and pointed a gun at the officers. There was an exchange of gunfire. Multiple officers fired weapons, according to KCK police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

Traffic was blocked on Parallel both east and westbound from 91st-98th. 

Police released no additional details.
