HARVEY COUNTY —A Newton woman died in a house fire late Sunday morning in the 500 block of West Fourth Street , according to a statement from Newton Fire and EMS.
Just after 11:30 a.m. crews responded to the call and found the home engulfed in fire and smoke. An active power line was on the ground. Crews pushed through the fire and found the woman inside. She has been identified as Susan Taylor, 74. Two dogs also died in the fire.
The fire was extinguished but caused heavy damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
