BARTON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a weekend arrest.
Just after 10:30 p.m. Sept. 2, a sheriff's deputy came in contact with Wendell Akins, 63, Ellinwood who was stopped at 250 N. Main Street in Hoisington, according Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir.
Akins had an outstanding felony warrant issued by the Barton County District Court. The warrant was for felony DUI, failing to stop at an injury accident and driving while suspended. During the course of the arrest, the deputy located a bag containing suspected methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia.
Akins was transported to the Barton County jail without incident and booked on the warrant which has a $40,000 bond as well as requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Those charges have a $10,000 bond, according to Bellendir.
Akins has numerous previous convictions for DUI and for driving while suspended, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
