Kansas man dead, 1 hospitalized after train strikes pickup

COWLEY COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 10a.m. Saturday in Cowley County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Toyota Tacoma driven by Mike K. Saengsavath was eastbound on 82nd Road just east of 31st when the driver failed to yield to a train at the railroad crossing. The train struck the pickup.

Saengsavath was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Miles Funeral Home in Winfield.

EMS transported a  passenger Chomchanh Khaikham, 55, Wichita, to Wesley Medical Center.  Both were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

The train engineer from Andover and the conductor from Derby were not injured.
