KANSAS CITY —A jury Nov. 15 convicted a Kansas City man of multiple felony charges in connection with the July 23, 2024, fatal shooting of a woman, DL O'Hara, inside an East Side Kansas City residence, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

The jury convicted 70-year-old Juan Maiden of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. The jury recommended a life sentence on the murder conviction and 15 years on the other convictions. The defendant will be sentenced at an upcoming hearing.

According to court records, Kansas City police officers were dispatched to the residence and found the victim's sister outside, with a neighbor. They informed officers that a shooting victim was inside with the defendant.

Officers entered the house through a window, knowing the victim was inside suffering from gunshot. Officers found the victim and got her out of the residence through the window. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. A witness told police she was talking to the victim when the defendant shot the victim. Officers eventually located the defendant in the basement.
