KANSAS CITY — A Judge sentenced a Kansas City man to life in prison, plus 15 years this week for a fatal shooting that led to an hours-long standoff, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.
In November 2024, a jury convicted 70-year-old Juan Maiden of 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 500th block of Booth Avenue on a shooting where they were informed the victim was inside the residence and shot by the defendant. Officers made entry and located the victim who had a gunshot wound to the head. Hours later, they located the defendant after a standoff.
A witness told police the defendant shot the victim unprovoked and then shot her two more times as she laid on the ground.
