Rape arrest: After online chat man went to Kan. woman's home

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a sexual assault and have a  suspect in custody.

Just before 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a 911 call on N. Ash in Wichita, according to a media release.

They contacted a female victim who reported being raped by an unknown man. The victim reported that she had been talking to the suspect online.

After talking online, the suspect went to the victim's home. When the suspect arrived at the home, the victim realized it was not the person she thought she had been talking to. The suspect then entered her home and sexually assaulted her before leaving.

Officers identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jeffrey Scroggins. Officers located and took him into custody in the 1900 block of W. 35th Street South in Wichita.

He was interviewed by Domestic Violence-Sex Crimes detectives and then booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of Aggravated Burglary and Rape.
