RICE COUNTY— Firefighters demolished a house in the 100 block of West Lincoln on Monday after a fire spread through its second floor, roof and attic, according to the Lyons Fire Department.
Lyons firefighters and Rice County Fire Department units from Sterling and Little River responded. As conditions worsened, fire command pulled crews from inside the house and began fighting the fire from outside.
The department said it brought in a track hoe to remove the roof and eventually tear down the house. Fire officials said the decision was made after consulting with personnel at the scene and was intended to contain the fire and protect nearby structures, the public and firefighters.
Most of the homeowner’s possessions had already been lost to fire, smoke and water damage, the department said. The statement did not report a cause or say whether anyone was injured.
