SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accidental shooting that injured a 33-year-old man.

Just before 10 a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to a shooting call at a motel in the 8400 block of West Kellogg Drive in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

First responders found the man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. EMS transported him to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed the 33-year-old victim was with an acquaintance of his when the handgun the acquaintance had in his waistband was accidentally dropped and a round was fired, striking him in his abdominal area.

The victim's acquaintance left the scene of the incident before the officers arrived. The victim was treated for his injury and released.
