
MONTGOMERY COUNTY —Five people including four children died in a house fire Friday in the city of Independence.
Just before 6:30.m. Independence Fire/EMS and Independence Police Department were dispatched to a house fire at 201 S. Earl Street, according to a media release.
Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS personnel removed multiple victims from the residence.
There were five confirmed deaths, according to the State Fire Marshal's office. Three other children and two adults are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Four Special Agents from the State Fire Marshal's office responded to assist with an investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted with the response, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Independence Rural Fire Department, CRMC EMS, and Cherryvale Fire/EMS.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved pending positive identification and notification of next of kin, as appropriate.
