Kansas City—Two people including a firefighter were hospitalized after a house fire in Kansas City, Missouri.

Just after 10a.m. Saturday Kansas City Fire Deparatment companies were dispatched to a reported house fire with a trapped occupant in the 100 block of West 85th Street, according to Battalion Chief RIley Nolan.

The first arriving company reported smoke and fire showing on arrival,  initiating a rescue operation and offensive fire attack. Firefighters made entry into the house, finding an elderly female and were able to evacuate her from the structure.

She was immediately taken to an awaiting ambulance and transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The fire was placed under control at 10:25 a.m.

Searches were conducted throughout the rest of the structure and came back "all clear."  One dog was able to get out safely.

A KCFD firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation of a minor injury. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, according to Riley.
