2 vehicle Kansas crash started large grass fire

SUMNER COUNTY— First responders extinguished a grass fire after responding to a two vehicle crash just after 4:30p.m. Monday in Sumner County.

The crash occurred at 119th and Greenwich Road, according to a social media report from Mulvane Fire and EMS.  The initial report indicated that people were trapped in one vehicle and that the vehicle was on fire, with live wires down.

First responders found a brush fire with a power pole sheared off, multiple lines downs in two directions, a power pole burning a block south of the original incident and reports of a house on fire with electrical shorting in the wall.  Both drivers had been able to exit before Fire and EMS arrived. The grass fire could not be extinguished until Evergy arrived to kill the powerlines.

Derby Fire Department, Sumner County Fire 9, Cowley County Fire District IV, Sedgwick County Fire District 1, Mulvane Police, Mulvane Dispatch, Sumner County Emergency Management and the Sumner County Sheriff's Office assisted Mulvate Fire and EMS.
