SEDGWICK COUNTY— A Kansas zoo in mourning the loss of one of their Red Pandas.

On Monday, the Sedgwick County Zoo said goodbye to CJ, their beloved 4-year-old Red Panda, according to social media report from the zoo.

"Over the past few weeks, CJ began showing signs of illness. Our animal care and veterinary staff responded by treating his symptoms and keeping him comfortable while working to find a diagnosis."

"After local tests were inconclusive, he was transported to BluePearl Pet Hospital for advanced testing. The extraordinary efforts of both teams helped point us toward a targeted treatment plan, but unfortunately, CJ passed away before a definitive diagnosis could be made."

"A full necropsy has been performed, and additional testing is underway to determine the cause of death."

"CJ was a vibrant part of our Sedgwick County Zoo family, and his memory will live on through the expert care we provide to Red Panda Sunsari as well as the 3,000 other animals who reside at the zoo."

The zoo thanked CJ’s caretakers and veterinary team for their unwavering commitment to his wellbeing, as well as the specialists at BluePearl Overland Park for their invaluable partnership."
