KANSAS CITY —One person died in a hit-and-run accident just before 9:30p.m. Tuesday in Kansas City.
A silver Chevrolet Cruz was southbound on 71 Highway at a high rate of speed, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.
The Chevrolet rear-ended a Chrysler 200 that was stopped for the red traffic control signal at 59th and 71 Highway.
The unrestrained driver of the Chrysler was pronounced deceased at the scene. The unrestrained front seat passenger of the Chevrolet was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and was reported in critical condition, according to DiMartino.
The driver and rear seat passenger of the Chevrolet ran from the crash the scene.
This is fatality #83 compared to #89 at this time last year in KCMO, according to DiMartino. Police have not released the names of those involved or additional details.
