Kan. man injured trying to save woman from fatal crash, fire

JOHNSON COUNTY —One person died and a pedestrian injured after an accident that occurred just before 12:30p.m. Tuesday in Johnson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Subaru Forester driven by  Rhiannon Marie Rodriguez, 43, Leavenworth, was southbound on Interstate 35 just north of 167th.  The SUV traveled off the road to the right into the ditch. It struck a tree, a concrete embankment and caught on fire.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics.  EMS transported a pedestrian identified Hugo Cesar Rodriguez-Salcedo, 33, Leavenworth, to KU Medical Center. He was trying to save the driver from the burning vehicle.
