SHAWNEE COUNTY —There were no injuries in a house fire Friday morning in Topeka.
Just before 12:30 a.m., fire crews responded to fire in the one-story residential home at 1614 S.W. Buchanan Street, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and fire coming from a side window of the home. A search of the structure revealed that no occupants were inside and they were able to escape.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire as Accidental, Careless use of smoking materials, according to Harrison. The estimated dollar loss – $14,500; $10,500 is associated with structural loss and $4,000 is associated with content loss. No smoke detectors were located within the structure, according to Harrison.
