Kan. man moved from hospital to jail after standoff with police

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on multiple allegations after a weekend standoff.

Just after 4 p.m. Jan. 6, police responded to a barricaded individual in the 1500 block of SW 23rd Park in Topeka, according to a media release. It was reported that an adult male had a firearm and was experiencing a mental health crisis.

Topeka Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team and Response Team responded to the incident to make contact with him.

A short time later, the occupants exited the residence and the suspect later identified as 65-year-old Lawrence Lovejoy was taken into custody and transported to a local medical care facility to receive care.

As a result of the investigation Lovejoy was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges Aggravated assault; Use of a deadly weapon, Criminal Restraint, Interference with LEO; obstruct/resist/oppose misdemeanor warrant service or execution Warrant
