The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojan basketball team (6-5) will travel to Abilene today for an added game against the Cowgirls (2-7).
This meeting was originally scheduled to take place earlier this season, was cancelled and now will be played in place of a game at Republic County which was originally slated to take place today.
SES comes into this game riding high, after picking up two wins in three excellent games at the Sterling Invitational.
While things have really picked up for the Trojans over the last few weeks, there is still work to do.
“We need to execute more on offense and be slower about putting up shots,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “I think our younger girls who have played this year have improved a lot defensively, and they’re starting to pick up on the pace of a varsity game.”
Abilene enters tonight's game coming off one of its two wins this year, a dominant 49-15 win over Wichita West.
The Cowgirls are led by Jenna Hayes, a starter since her freshman year who has continued to have a bigger and bigger impact each season.
Once again, SES will face an uphill battle in dealing with Abilene’s size, but it’s one they’ve overcome a number of times already this year.
“We have to be able to score,” Smith said. “They’re a lot bigger and more physical than we are so we need to make some shots and do a good job of guarding them.”
Tip off is scheduled for 6:45pm tonight, and will be the only SES game today following the boys cancellation against Republic County. This game can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM) or streamed on Salina Post courtesy of Smart Insurance.
