DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are asking the public for help with information about an incident that happened Saturday that left a woman with severe facial injuries after she was beaten and allegedly kicked in the face multiple times.
Just after 5p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to 10th and New Jersey in Lawrence and found a woman lying on her back, not able to move or communicate well, according to Lawrence Police Department spokesperson Laura McCabe.
Her eyes were purple and swollen shut, and she was bleeding from her head and mouth. The woman was able to name the woman she says hurt her.
Officers quickly learned the suspect went to a house near 10th and New York. When an officer approached the house, the suspect ran out another door and found a second officer there – who safely took her into custody.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned the two women knew each other and were in a car with another woman and a man when an argument began. The two women continued arguing when they got out of the car and the couple in the car left.
The female suspect was interviewed then transported and later booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility.
The victim was later transferred to an area trauma center because of the severity of her injuries, including several facial bone fractures.
Police want to speak to the man and woman who were in the car or anyone who witnessed the incident. Please call 911, non-emergency dispatch at 785.843.0250, or Crime Stoppers of Lawrence-Douglas County at 785.843.TIPS (8477).
