Teacher accused of sex crimes with students is due in court

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — A former Kansas substitute teacher accused of sex crimes with students is due in court Monday to be formally charged, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Whitney Shull, 39, who worked at Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309  if facing charges of  unlawful sexual relations, attempted unlawful sexual relations, aggravated sexual battery and two counts of hosting minors consuming alcohol.

The alleged incidents occurred in Reno County between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, and involved instances where Shull allegedly engaged in sexual acts with two teens; one consensual and one non-consensual, when the alleged victim was unconscious, and held down the wrists of a third teen to unsuccessfully engage in a sex act, according to a complaint filed in Reno County District court.

On June 2, Shull met the requirement of bond and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.

As a professional courtesy, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett agreed to handle the Shull matter at the request of Thomas Stanton, the District Attorney in Reno County. Mr. Bennett will receive no compensation for his role in the Reno County case.
