Kan. felon with a dozen convictions jailed for alleged theft

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a series of thefts and have a suspect in custody.

On Monday, police were investigating a series of past retail thefts that were reported over the weekend in Topeka, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols

These thefts occurred in the 2900 block of SW Wanamaker Road, the 5900 block of SW Huntoon Avenue and the 2600 block of SE California Avenue.

The suspect was identified, with assistance from the State of Kansas Parole Office, as Dustin J. Spooner, 38, of Topeka.

Just before 8 p.m. on Monday, officers located Spooner near SE 26th Street and SE California Avnue, where they arrested and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Felony Theft, and Parole Violation Warrant

Spooner has 12 prior felony convictions in the state of Kansas, which include four prior theft convictions.
