Kansas woman jailed after chase in reported stolen SUV

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple charges after a chase and arrest. 

Just after 3:30a.m. Friday, a deputy with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop near SW 29th Street and SW Topeka Boulevard on a green2007 Kia Sportage that had been reported stolen through the Topeka Police Department, according to Deputy Shayna Anderson.

The driver, later identified as Michelle L. Baker, 36, of Topeka, failed to stop and initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, the driver drove through multiple yards, striking a mailbox in the 3300 block of SE Bryant Street. The pursuit ended in the 3300 block of SE Adams Street where she was taken into custody.

Baker was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of possession of stolen property, felony flee and elude, reckless driving, criminal damage to property, operating a vehicle without a valid license, and numerous traffic violations.
