SEDGWICK COUNTY— A man with a long criminal history who admitted his role in a deadly Wichita shooting in a dispute of a woman is going back to prison.
Last week, Judge Christopher Magana sentenced 27-year-old Elijah Fanning to 25-months in prison for the shooting death of 26-year-old Nichols Aldredge in June of 2025, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
In March, Fanning pleaded guilty to criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the shooting death.

Just before 2:30 p.m. June 29, officers responded to a shooting in the 2700 block of W. 2nd Street in Wichita.
First responders found a man later identified as Nicholas Aldridge of Wichita on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, according to a media release from police. Detectives learned the shooting followed a disturbance between Aldridge and four other men. All four fled the area before officers arrived. Court records indicated the disturbance involved a dispute over a woman.
Just after 6p.m. June 29, police booked Fanning into the Sedgwick County Jail. He has previous convictions for kidnapping, burglary, theft and Criminal possess of a weapon by a felon, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
After his prison sentence, Fanning will be required to serve 12 months of post-release supervision, according to DA's office.
