Funeral services set for Kansas deputy who died in crash

BUTLER COUNTY —Funeral services are set for a Kanas Deputy who died in Monday evening traffic crash.

The funeral for deputy Stephen Evans will be held at the Butler County Community College in the Clifford Stone Hubbard Welcome Center on Monday, November 1, at 1:00pm, according to the sheriff's deparment.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that just after 5p.m. Monday, a 2006 marked law enforcement 2006 Ford Crown Victoria driven by 44-year-old Deputy Stephen Evans  was southbound on U.S.77 just north of NW 50th.

 The deputy pulled to the right shoulder and briefly stopped before making a u-turn crossing the southbound lanes. A southbound 2002 Ford F250 driven by  Jacob Steven Weaver, 29, Douglas, struck the left side of Crown Victoria.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. EMS transported Weaver to a Wichita Hospital. Weaver was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

According to the sheriff's office Evans leaves behind his wife, three children, his parents, and the men and women of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
