Man treated for smoke inhalation after fire at Kan. home

TOPEKA—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a fire at a home in Topeka.

Just after 5:30a.m. Thursday, a fire was discovered within apartment #2 in a home at 1524 North Kansas, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the 2nd floor apartment. The fire was quickly extinguished  and contained to the room where it started.

Estimated dollar loss – $35,000.00; of which $25,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $10,000.00 associated with contents loss.

All occupants were able to escape prior to the fire department arrival. One occupant suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene, according to Harrison

Two occupants were displaced as a result of the fire incident, and they we’re assist by the American Red Cross.  Working smoke detectors were not located within the structure of fire origin, according to Harrison.
