KANSAS CITY —At the request of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating an officer-involved shooting.
Just before 3:30a.m. Sundady, two KCPD officers in a single patrol vehicle stopped a red Toyota pickup truck for alleged traffic violations near the intersection of 34th Street and Gillham Road, according to a media release from the patrol.
The driver was suspected to be intoxicated. As the officers were exiting their patrol vehicle, the suspect vehicle went in reverse, traveled backwards and struck the patrol vehicle. Simultaneously, both officers fired at the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene and the officers pursued.
The suspect vehicle pulled over shortly after at the intersection of 33rd and Homles Street, where the female driver was taken into custody. The driver had a gunshot wound. EMS responded and transported her to a local hospital. She was reported in stable condidtion. Neither officer was injured during the incident. Police have not released the name of the suspect or possible charges in the case.
