Kan. woman shot boyfriend in Thanksgiving dispute

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Thanksgiving Day shooting and have two suspects in custody.

Just after 3p.m. Thursday, police responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of North Ash in Wichita, according to Officer Kevin Wheeler.

Upon arrival, officers located Maurice Simmons, 46, Wichita, with a gunshot wound.  He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that Maurice Simmons was involved in a disturbance with Diane Simmons, 48, Wichita with whom he was involved in a dating relationship, according to Wheeler.  The disturbance turned physical, at which point Diane Simmons allegedly retrieved a gun and shot him in the arm.

Police arrested Diane Simmons for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and  Maurice Simmons for aggravated domestic battery and a city of Wichita misdemeanor warrant, according to Wheeler.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
