SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal train versus pedestrian crash that occurred Wednesday evening, April 1, along the railroad tracks in the 3300 block of South K-15 Highway near Turnpike Drive, according to sheriff's office spokesman Branden Stitt.
Just after 9o.m., deputies, along with Sedgwick County EMS and Sedgwick County Fire District 1, responded to a report from BNSF Railway that a locomotive had struck a pedestrian on the tracks.
Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian, identified as Virakone Bouaravanh, 50, of Wichita, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, foul play is not suspected. The circumstances surrounding why Bouaravanh was on the railroad tracks remain under investigation.
