The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans will close out their season tonight with a home game against the 3-12 Republic County Lady Buffaloes.
The Lady Buffs began the season 1-12 but enter tonight fresh off back-to-back wins against Ellsworth and Sacred Heart.
SES comes in having won 12 of their last 15 games, with two of their three losses in that span coming to state-ranked opponents.
Tonight is also senior night at Southeast of Saline High School but without a single senior on the roster, the ceremony could be a brief one for the Lady Trojans.
“Honestly this thought didn't come to me until last night,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “It’s a great feeling to know that I will have every kid back and hopefully we will be able to just start building again next year.”
For Southeast, tonight is an excellent opportunity to build some more momentum heading into sub-state, where the team has already locked up a first round home game.
“I’m hoping the momentum will continue from last night to tonight and we will just take it with us,” Smith said. “This is the time of year where you can't have an off night or you will be going home.
While Republic County doesn’t look too impressive on paper, SES will have to stay alert at the wheel in their final game to end the regular season with a win.
“We just need to limit their looks and the looks they get need to be tough shots,” she said. “We need to make it a full court game pushing the ball under control. Our key to tonight is to get the ball and go but to put the ball in the bucket. We need to keep seeing our shots go in.”
Tip off between SES and Republic County is scheduled for 6pm tonight and the game can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM).
