KCPD: 48-year-old hospitalized after shooting has died

KANSAS CITY —Police investigating a deadly weekend shooting in Kansas City have identified the victim as 48-year-old Samuel Aro, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

Just before 2:30 a.m., March 23, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 7800 block of N Oak in Kansas City. 

When officers arrived to the area they located several citizens performing life saving measures on Aro who was suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds. Officers took over life saving measures until EMS responded and transported the victim to an area hospital with critical injuries. 

Preliminarily investigation indicates a verbal dispute may have occurred between the victim and another man that escalated into gunfire. The suspect left the area prior to police arriving on the scene. Police have not released the name of a suspect or additional details.

On Monday, detectives were notified Aro died as a result of his injuries. 

Homicide detectives have assumed responsibility of the case.
