BARTON COUNTY —Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a barn in rural Barton County.

Just before 5p.m. Friday, Barton County Fire District #2 responded to a barn fire around just east of Hoisington, according to a social media report.

Crews found an old cattle barn fully involved and partially collapsed. Due to the size of the shed and the partial collapse, firemen went into defensive mode protecting any surrounding structures and to keep the fire from spreading.

The fire was contained and put out after about two hours.  The scene was monitored for any hot spots. The structure was a total loss.  There were no injuries reported.

Due to the location and size of the structure, mutual aid was requested from Great Bend Fire Department and Claflin Fire Department to bring tanker trucks to help shuttle water.

Barton County Fire District #2 was assisted by Barton County Dispatch, Great Bend Fire Department, Claflin Fire Department, Barton County Sheriffs Department and Western Cooperative Electric.
