Grass fire burns hundreds of acres in northeast Kansas

WABAUNSEE COUNTY—A large grass fire adjacent to Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County is under control after burning hundreds of acres, according to the Wabaunsee County Sheriff's office.

The fire temporarily closed portion of Kansas 99 Highway south of Kansas 18, south of Wamego and Keene-Eskridge Road was also closed from Dry Creek to Blazingstar.

Officials had asked nearby residents to prepare to evacuate.

Just before 6p.m., crews contained the fire and they continued to monitor hot spots overnight. There were no injuries reported.  Authorities have not reported what cause the fire.
