Police ID 9-year-old Kan. boy injured in accidental shooting

GEARY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating an accidental shooting  have identified the injured boy as 9-year-old Terrance Resto of Junction City, according to Junction City Police Captain Cory Odell.  Late Wednesday morning, the boy was reported as stable and alert at a Wichita hospital.

 Odell said the boy and his 11-year-old  brother were "messing around in some capacity with a loaded firearm and Terrance was shot."

EMS transported the boy to Geary Community Hospital and he was then airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment. The brother was not injured, according to Odell.

 The shooting occurred just after 7p.m. Tuesday outside of the house where the boys lived at 2007 Northwind Drive, according to Odell.

GEARY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accidental shooting that critically injured a boy.

According to Junction City Police Captain Cory Odell, two brothers, ages 9 and 11, were messing around in some capacity with a loaded firearm and it appears that one accidentally shot the other.

Odell said the firearm involved was a handgun and the 9-year old suffered a wound to his body. EMS transported the boy to Geary Community Hospital and he was then airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment. Another boy, a sibling, was not injured in the incident.

 The shooting occurred just after 7p.m. Tuesday outside of the house where the boys lived at 2007 Northwind Drive, according to Odell.

The name of the 9-year old has not yet been released.
