
SALINA —On Monday morning, South High School administration received a report of a gun in the building, according to a media release from USD 305.
The school immediately went into lockdown and alerted law enforcement. Salina Police, the Saline County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and Salina Fire and Rescue responded and searched the building.
Law enforcement determined that the school is secure and that there was no weapon and that no shots were fired.
The police turned the building back over to administration. The South High School administration will determine any adjustments to the schedule that are needed. The school day will resume as usual.
"We appreciate the quick response from the Salina Police Department and first responders. They have determined that there was no danger."
The was a large number of parents and others on the west edge of Jerry Ivey Park waiting to get information about what was happening in the school. The street between the park and school grounds was shut down to traffic, as was a portion of Magnolia Road in front of the High School.
