SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating an arson fire in Topeka.
Just after 2a.m. Friday crews from fire crews responded to a reported two-story house fire at 1407 SW Western Avenue, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.
First arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house and worked to extinguish the fire. No occupants were located, and no injuries have been reported.
Investigators determined the cause to be intentionally set. The total estimated loss associated with the fire is approximately $13,500. The home did not have working smoke detectors, according to Nichols.
