BARTON COUNTY —A Kansas felon who allegedly shot at police during a pursuit is in custody in California.
On Wednesday, officials in Red Bluff, California notified Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir they had 38-year-old William Thomas Frederick in custody.
Frederick was a suspect in an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of April 1 during a pursuit involving Sheriff’s deputies and a Hoisington Police Department officer when he allegedly fired on officers.
Warrants were issued by the Barton County District Court on requested charges of two counts of Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, Aggravated Assault of Law Enforcement Officer and Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer. The bond on the warrants has been set at $100,000.
Frederick had been listed as an absconder on February 27, 2023. It is not known to law enforcement or the public how many violations he had committed prior to being listed as an absconder. The Sheriff’s office will be in contact with California authorities to facilitate extradition. Frederick will be transported back to Barton County as soon as extradition proceedings are complete, according to Bellendir.
