MONTGOMERY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman on multiple charges after a traffic stop.
Just after 8:30a.m. Friday Sheriff's Detectives conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler Minivan at 4th and Maple Street in Independence, Kansas for a traffic infraction, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Ron Wade.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 35-year-old Ashley Linton and a passenger in the vehicle identified as Ryan Banning both of Independence, Kansas.
During the traffic stop the sheriff’s office Police Service Dog, Hector, was deployed around the outside of the vehicle for a free air sniff and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle
This allowed detectives to search inside where they located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Deputies released Banning from the scene. Linton took ownership of the narcotics and was taken into custody then transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.
Upon arrival at DOC, it was discovered Linton was in possession of written checks belonging to area businesses and citizens.
Detectives contacted the businesses and it was determined they had been stolen within the past couple of weeks. The investigation into the stolen checks is ongoing.
Linton was booked into DOC on requested charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, expired tag, and no insurance. This case has been sent to the County Attorney’s Office.
