SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting and have made an arrest with the help of citizens near the scene.
Just 7:00 pm. on Wednesday, police were dispatched to report of a shooting in the area of Rutan and Sunnybrook in Wichita, according to Officer Kristopher Gupilan.
First responders located 31-year-old Chance Martin who had suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers began life saving measures. Martin was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to Gupilan.
The investigation revealed that 24-year-old Angel Lara and another individual had an altercation with Martin which led to Lara brandishing a gun and shooting Martin. Witnesses on scene provided information on Lara’s vehicle. The information and the FLOCK system, allowed police to locate Lara's vehicle in the 900 block of W. 47th Street South in Wichita.
Officers took him into custody without incident. He is being held on a requested charge of 2nd degree murder.
This investigation would not have been solved so quickly without the help of the vigilant citizens on scene, according to Gupilan.
