OMAHA— A Nebraska State Trooper was injured just after 8:30p.m. Monday when the trooper’s patrol unit was struck by a large truck, according to a media release from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Troopers were performing traffic control on Interstate 80 near 50th Street as the Omaha Police Department was handling a single-vehicle crash in the area. The initial crash was blocking the shoulder and one lane of traffic. Troopers were assisting first responders by blocking the lane of traffic.

While the trooper’s unit was parked, with emergency lights activated, a box truck struck the cruiser. The trooper was inside the cruiser at the time and was injured. Additional troopers and Omaha police officers were on scene immediately and helped the trooper exit the vehicle safely.

The trooper was transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Nebraska State Patrol has asked the Omaha Police Department to investigate the crash.
