SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after he jumped from a stolen vehicle.
Just before 10:30p.m. May 5, a Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 1993 Honda Accord for failing to have a working taillight near NE Gordon Street and NE Monroe Street, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.
The vehicle also came back as stolen out of Lawrence. The driver later identified as 38-year-old Shawn M. Wood, refused to stop and as the vehicle entered the intersection, the driver jumped out and fled on foot.
The vehicle continued onto a curb, into the grass and ultimately came to rest back in the roadway. The driver was quickly apprehended in the backyard of a residence in the 900 block of NE Madison Street.
During the investigation, deputies found illegal narcotics.
Deputies arrested and booked Wood into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. He also had felony warrant out of another state and is being held on requested charges of interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, license plate not assigned, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and defective tag lamps.
