Police ID Kan. man who died after crash onto front lawn of hotel

TOPEKA– Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatality crash Monday morning involving one vehicle have identified the victim as Brad L. Shipps, 50 of Tecumseh.

Just after 6:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, 420 SE 6th Avenue in Topeka on a report of a vehicle that crashed and came to rest on the front lawn of the business, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on SE 6th Avenue prior to the crash.

Upon arrival, officers located Shipps. He was the single occupant of the vehicle and was  unresponsive.  Medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased a short time later.

SE 6th Ave. between SE Madison Street and SE Jefferson Street were temporarily closed to traffic during the investigation, according Spiker.
